Holiday Fundraiser

Thank you to our incredible community for supporting the Irene C. Hernandez Foundation’s first holiday fundraiser! 

For our first event we wanted to do something near and dear to our hearts that all started about 45 years ago. Irene’s daughter, Diane, was working as a teacher with Chicago Public Schools. One of her students was diagnosed with cancer and passed away right before Christmas. Irene suggested they buy food and presents for the family. They shared with the rest of their family and everyone decided to contribute. 

Every year since then, Irene’s family, (her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) have supported families in need. For the past 14 years, Irene’s family has come together during the holiday season to donate items to families in need at the Irene C. Hernandez Middle School named after Irene. 

This year, with your help we were able to make the holidays brighter for multiple families! Some items we provided were coats, boots, groceries, toys, & other essentials.

We also had a holiday wrapping party. The Board, along with members of the Hernandez family, gathered together to wrap gifts. We had a wonderful time sharing memories of Irene C. Hernandez and honoring her legacy by giving back to our community.
